Ordinance Regarding Snow Routes
Procedure for Designated Snow Route (SR) Streets:The City of Lacon has an Ordinance regarding now routes and would appreciate cooperation from citizens during our snow removal activities. According to Chapter 13, Article 10, Section 1 of the City of Lacon Ordinances, all motor vehicles need to be removed from streets that are designated as “snow routes” (SR) within two (2) hours after a snowfall of two (2”) inches or more and should remain off the streets until they have been plowed.
Designated Snow Route Streets include the follow streets:
4th St from Water St to Prairie St 5th St from Water St to Ida St 6th St from Water St to Center St
Main St from Water St to Center 6th St Washington St from 4th St to 7th St Broad St from 4th St to 6th St
Prairie St from Washington St to Railroad St
Procedure for all other streets:
At any time there is a snowfall of two (2”) inches or more within the city and after the snow fall has stopped, all motor vehicles and also including trailers, dumpsters and freestanding basketball hoops need to be removed from the north and west sides of non-snow routes streets for a period of 12 hours. After the streets have been cleaned on the north and west sides, then all vehicles shall be removed from the south and east sides of the street.
Chapter 13, Article 10, Section 3 or the Ordinance states that it shall be unlawful for any person, his employee or agent, to remove snow from any public or private parking lots, driveways, streets or alleys and deposit the snow in and onto the public streets and alleys.
There are 29 miles of streets and alleys in the city of Lacon and everyone will be plowed eventually. The City has only 3 employees and 2 trucks that can remove snow. We have a snow removal procedure that the downtown area is plowed first and then the school area is cleared next. Then all other streets will be cleared with one truck plowing the north and south streets and the other truck plowing east and west streets. The alleys are plowed last. The City crews need your cooperation in order to maintain an effective and safe snow removal procedure.
